Fall Reset – why it feels like my New Year
Fall has always felt like a time of reset for me – much more so than New Year’s. Maybe it’s because I am a fall baby, but I think it’s more likely because I spent so many years in school. Every fall felt like the moment to get my s**t together and jump into a “new year”.
Back-to-school reset: creating a functional Drop zone
This back-to-school season, I was determined to get an organizational system in place for my kids’ school work.
Last year we used a wall calendar and kept their books and backpacks in a kitchen cabinet. It worked… okay. But I felt like we needed more of a drop zone—something that would allow the kids to be more independent with loading and unloading their school things.
Three weeks in, and it seems to be working!
I swapped out our 1Thrive wall calendar for a folder bin and added more hooks. Now the homework goes in the bin, and jackets and backpacks live on the hooks.
Oh, and I also succumbed to the social media hype and bought the Skylight Calendar.
And let me tell you… it’s legit. ✨
- I only have to put recurring events (like after-school activities) in once.
- It syncs beautifully with my work schedule.
- It’s one less thing to mentally juggle.
I’m still figuring out the reward section, though. How many stars should feeding the fish earn? Honestly, keeping your pet alive might be reward enough. 🐠
Garden Rests and Honest Kale Confessions
This past week, I pulled out some of the neglected plants in my garden. Every year I swear I’m going to do a better job watering and tending to the veggies. And every year, come August, I lose steam—right when everything is exploding.
Zucchini for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Beans eight ways! If I’m honest, a good portion of my gardening joy comes from the planning and planting, watching something I created come to life.
I mean… I don’t even know if I actually like kale. 🤷♀️🥬
I hope you are enjoying the fall reset however it finds you.
